43. The great City Wall of... X'ian, China / Wielki Mur Miejski X'ian

The City Wall encircles the ancient part of X'ian. Cycling around it is one of the top attractions of the city. / Miejski Mur okrąża starą część miasta X'ian. Wycieczki rowerowe na murze to jedna z głównych atrakcji.

Built to protect the city from its enemies, wall of X'ian is nearly 14km long and 600 years old. It's one of the best preserved structures in China and one of the biggest ancient military defensive systems in the world.

42. X'ian, China / X'ian, Chiny

The coolest way that we've travelled so far... A bullet train from Beijing to X'ian that took 5,5hrs with the speed coming up to 303km/h! This thing goes so smoothly that you can nearly balance a coin on the seat armrest.. Keith had a go and almost did it:) / Najfajniejszy sposób naszego dotychczasowego podróżowania... Super szybki pociąg, który zabrał nas z Pekinu do X'ian z prędkością dochodzący do 303km/godz.! To cacko pędzi tak płynnie, że można prawie 'postawić' monetę na poręczy siedzenia. Keith'owi prawie się udało:)

 We left Beijing gladly because the polution was becoming unbereable as the days passed. Bank holiday/ Easter holiday ended, people got back to work therefore roads became much more crowded with cars. We didn't expect the smog to continue outside Beijing. But it did. The grey cloud spread for, what seemed like at least another 120 km.
Unfortunately X'ian was no better in that respect. We suffered from headeaches, blocked sinuses and dripping noses. But that didn't stop from enjoying the city. To get about X'ian, we used the metro. They've got 2 lines at the moment and another 4 under construction. Trust us when we tell you that those trains are permanently filled with commuters. It's like they've got a London rush hour all day long every single day. Crumped like sardines in a tin!



Z Pekinu wyjezdzaliśmy z uśmiechem na twarzy, gdyż zanieczyszczenie powietrza robiło się trudne do wytrzymania. Wielkanocny weekend minął, ludzie wrócili do pracy więc ulice zapełniły się samochodami. Wydawało nam się, że ten cały smog pozostawimy w tyle za sobą. Ale niestety szara chmura unosiła sie jeszcze przez jakieś 120km poza Pekinem.
Jak się niestety okazało, miasto X'ian też jest mocno zanieczyszczone na skutek czego łaziliśmy z bólem głowy, zatkanymi zatokami i gilami cieknącymi z nosa. No, ale to nie oznacza, że nie warto było. Do zwiedzania miasta wykorzystaliśmy metro (żeby też uniknąć korków).
W X'ian mają obecnie tylko 2 linie i kolejnych 4 w budowie. Uwierzcie nam drogie panie i panowie, kiedy Wam obwieszczamy, że te pociągi są cały czas zapełnione po brzegi ludźmi. Tak jak Londyn w godzinach największego szczytu, tylko że u nich non stop cały dzień codzień. Ściśnięci jak sardynki w puszce.

Not the most pleasant accessory but a necessary one. / Nie do końca najprzyjemniejszy dodatek, ale potrzebny.

Beautifully lit Bell Tower and the Drum Tower in the distance. / Pięknie oświetlona Wieża z Dzwonem i w oddali Wieża z Bębnami.

Muslim Street just around the corner from our hotel. People flood there to taste street food and shop. / Ulica Muzułmanów znajduje się rzut beretem od naszego hotelu. Ludzie tu przychodzą, by skosztować lokalne jedzenie i na zakupy.  

Lanterns, lights, lit banners all in one place - sometimes it looks really kitsch. / Lampiony, światła, podświetlone banery, wszystko w jednym miejscu. Aż czasami kiczem wieje. 

It may sound strange but in X'ian we finally felt like we're in China. Walking on the street of this city we've noticed that people still cultivate their traditions. In Beijing they seem to have abandoned them in the name of modern lifestyle and fascination of the western culture. / Może to zabrzmi dziwnie, ale po przyjeździe do X'ian w końcu poczuliśmy, że jesteśmy w Chinach. Chodząc ulicami zauważyliśmy, że ludzie tutaj kultywują tradycjom. W Pekinie z kolei mieliśmy wrażenie, że nowoczesny styl życia i fascynacja zachodnią kulturą wzięły górę.  

Barbequed meet is certainly most popular. / Mięsko z grilla zdecydowanie cieszy się popularnością.

39. Temple of Heaven, Beijing, China / Świątynia Nieba, Pekin, Chiny

Temple of Heaven was added onto the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1998. Keith outside the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests which is the main building of the complex. / Świątynia Nieba została wpisana na Listę Światowego Dziedzictwa UNESCO w 1998 r. Keith stoi przed Pawilonem Modlitwy o Urodzaj, który jestem najważniejszym budynkiem tego kompleksu. 

Temple of Heaven complex was constructed in 15th century. The complex was used by the emperors of Ming and Quing dynasties  as an annual prayer site to heaven for good harvests.

38. Easter weekend in Beijing, China / Wielkanoc w Pekinie, Chiny

A street with shopping malls close to our hotel. We could nearly call it Oxford St, of Beijing. / Ulica z wieloma sklepami niedaleko naszego hotelu. Prawie że można nazwać ją londyńską Oxford Street.

Beijing is a very modern city. There are shopping malls everywhere full of shops like Zara, Gap, H&M and other high street brands with Prada, Cartier and other big names opened next to them. Girls are fashionably wearing big bags and sunglasses. Oh and iPhones in their hands just like we see it on the streets of London.

37. Mates to the rescue, Beijing, China. / Koledzy na ratunek, Pekin, Chiny.

We arrived in Beijing in the late afternoon. We  expected for the weather to be cooler than what we've been used to until now, but believe us, it was shockingly freezing (+6C only in the evening)! So to calm ourselves down we headed across the street from our hotel for a drink. And guess who joined us for a catch up...?
