38. Easter weekend in Beijing, China / Wielkanoc w Pekinie, Chiny

A street with shopping malls close to our hotel. We could nearly call it Oxford St, of Beijing. / Ulica z wieloma sklepami niedaleko naszego hotelu. Prawie że można nazwać ją londyńską Oxford Street.

Beijing is a very modern city. There are shopping malls everywhere full of shops like Zara, Gap, H&M and other high street brands with Prada, Cartier and other big names opened next to them. Girls are fashionably wearing big bags and sunglasses. Oh and iPhones in their hands just like we see it on the streets of London.

The fascination of a western culture is highly noticeable. You could almost forget that you're visiting a comunist country if it wasn't for the presence of police and military forces on the streets. And believe us, THERE'S MANY OF THEM. Watching people fully geared up and stopping them for random searches. You want to take a tube? Then you need to go through an airport style security. You want to visit any tourist attraction? Again, you get searched (and if you're Chinese, your ID is being checked) and your bag is searched and scanned.
 Police can easily track your whereabouts when you're travelling because your passport/ID number is recorded on your train ticket. No passport or ID on you, then no train ticket! It's shocking how the nation is being controlled and how open government is about it!



Pekin to bardzo nowoczesne miasto. Pełno tutaj centròw handlowych z markami takimi jak Zara, Gap czy H&M ze sklepami z wyższej półki takimi jak Prada i Cartier otwartymi tuż obok. Widać, że dziewczęta gorliwie naśladują ostatnie trendy mody ze swoimi wielkimi torebkami, okularami i iPhone'ami w dłoni. Wypisz, wymaluj Londyn.
 Fascynację kulturą zachodnią widać gołym okiem do tego stopnia, iż łatwo jest zapomnieć, że człowiek przebywa w kraju komunistycznym. Ale przypomina o tym obecność policji i wojska na ulicach. I uwierzcie nam, JEST ICH WSZĘDZIE PEŁNO. Uzbrojeni, obserwują i sprawdzają dowody przypadkowym przechodniom.
Chcesz wsiąść do metra? Zanim to zrobisz, musisz przejść przez odprawę taką jak na lotnisku. Chcesz pozwiedzać jakieś turystyczne atrakcje? Tutaj też przed wejściem zostajesz przeszukana/y (jak jesteś Chińczykiem, to musisz się wylegitymować), a twoja torba przeczesana dobitnie i jeszcze przeskanowana.
Policja bez problemu może śledzić Twoje ruchy, to gdzie podróżujesz, bo Twój numer paszportu/dowodu wydrukowany jest na bilecie. Jak nie masz paszportu lub dowodu przy zakupie biletu na pociąg, to go nie wykupisz. Ta cała kontrola niemalże absolutna całego narodu i fakt, że rząd nawet tego nie ukrywa jest naprawdę szokująca.

Just off the high street (close to Wangfujing tube station), we found this food street market street that seems to be visited by many chinese tourists. This street looks more chinese than all the streets put together in the neighbourhood./ Mała uliczka, gdzie serwują jedzenie typu food street, odbijająca od tej powyżej (niedaleko stacji metra Wangfujing), która zdaje się przyciągać chińskich turystów. Ta uliczka ma w sobie więcej chińskiego charakteru niż wszystkie pobliskie wzięte razem.

And here we found these delicatessens. We regret to inform you that we could not bring ourselves to taste any of these ( top from left to right: scorpions and grubs; bottom left to right: crickets and scorpions). Some of the ... were still alive on a barbecue stick before they were grilled. / Tutaj znaleźliśmy oto te delikatesy. Niestety z żalem musimy Was poinformować (Mróweczko zwłaszcza Ciebie), iż nie mogliśmy zdobyć sie na ich degustację ( na górze od lewej: skorpiony i jakieś gąsienice; na dole od lewej: świerszcze i skorpiony)... niektóre z nich były jeszcze żywe, już na patyku ale jeszcze przed grillowaniem.

If you're looking to experience some Chinese culture or see what Beijing was like before all this modernisatìon, then you need to head down to The Hutongs. / Jeżeli chcesz liznąć trochę chińskiej kultury lub zobaczyć po części, jak Pekin wyglądał jeszcze nie tak dawno, to musisz udać się do Hutongòw.

Hutongs are a type of narrow streets, formed by lines of single storey traditional courtyard residences with an outside toilets to share between the tenants. / Hutongi to wąskie uliczki ze szczelnie połączonymi ze sobą parterowymi budynkami posiadającymi małe dziedzińce i toaletą na zewnątrz.

Many gates of the households are open and you can sneakingly peak inside. / Wiele bram jest otwartych, więc można niepostrzeżenie zajrzeć do domostwa.

There are houses that same family have been living in for many generations. Above, a courtyard of traditional family home. / Są tu jeszcze domy, w których zamieszkuje ta sama rodzina od wieku pokoleń. Na zdjęciu powyżej, dziedziniec nadal zachowany w tradycyjnym stylu.

As you can imagine, some parts are turned into restaurants, bars and shops. / Jak można się domyślić, niektóre części Hutongòw zamienione zostały w bary, restauracje i sklepy.
