39. Temple of Heaven, Beijing, China / Świątynia Nieba, Pekin, Chiny

Temple of Heaven was added onto the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1998. Keith outside the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests which is the main building of the complex. / Świątynia Nieba została wpisana na Listę Światowego Dziedzictwa UNESCO w 1998 r. Keith stoi przed Pawilonem Modlitwy o Urodzaj, który jestem najważniejszym budynkiem tego kompleksu. 

Temple of Heaven complex was constructed in 15th century. The complex was used by the emperors of Ming and Quing dynasties  as an annual prayer site to heaven for good harvests.

The design of the complex holds plenty of symbolism. The round shape of Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests represents Heaven and is standing on a square yard which is representing Earth.
Number 9 used in the design of Circular Mound Altar is a symbol of heaven and of an emperor. The 3 platforms of this altar hold another representations: starting from a bottom, of a Man, then Earth and finally Heaven (the top one). These are just 3 of many examples found here.

Kompleks Świątyń Nieba został zbudowany w 15 wieķu. To tutaj cesarze dynastii Ming i Quing przychodzili rok w rok modlić się do nieba o dobre plony. Budynki kompleksu kryją w sobie dużo symboliki. Okrągły Pawilon Modlitwy o Urodzaj reprezentuje Niebo. Stoi na kwadratowym placu reprezentującym Ziemię. Numer 9 użyty w projekcie Okrągłego Ołtarza jest symbolem nieba i cesarza. 3 platformy, z których ołtarz ten jest zbudowany reprezentują kolejno od podstawy Człowieka, potem środkowa Ziemię i górna Niebo. To są tylko 3 z wielu przykładów użycia symboliki tutaj.

Wooden building with no nails (!) and surrounding it marmour yard. The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest had to be rebuilt after it got struck by a lightning and burnt in 1889. / Drewniany budynek bez gwoździ  (!) I otaczający go marmurowy plac. Pawilon Modlitwy o Urodzaj został odbudowany po tym,jak został spalony na wskutek uderzenia błyskawicy.

This place is full not only with tourists but also with people wanting to gamble. / To miejsce zapełnia się nie tylko turystami, lecz również tymi, co chcą pouprawiać trochę hazardu.

Men, women - all seem to be very interested in a game. Apparently they  gather over here to play on a daily basis. / Mężczyźni, kobiety - wszyscy są zainteresowani grą. Podobno zbierają się tutaj codziennie.

The Circular Mound Altar, used by an emperor as a sacrificial altar and to pray for good weather for the harvest. Number 9 represents the sign of Emperor and is clearly evident here: a single marmour plate (starting at the top) is surrounded by a ring of 9 nine plates, then by another ring of 18 plates, and so on. / Okrągły Ołtarz używany był przez cesarza do składania ofiar i do modlitwy o dobrą pogodę na plony. Numer 9 reprezentujący Cesarza jest tutaj widoczny: jedna marmurowa płyta na górnej platformie otoczona jest pierścieniem 9 płyt, potem pierścieniem 18 płyt i tak dalej.
