78. Looking for grunge in Seattle.... / W poszukiwaniu muzyki grunge w Seattle...

Hard to find without a map or GPS but we managed! Unofficial memorial for Kurt Cobain (Nirvana): a bench outside a house he used to own that's scribbled on with messages of love by fans after his death. / Trudno ją znaleźć bez mapy i GPS'u, ale nam się udało! Nieoficjalny pomnik dla Kurta Cobain'a (Nirvana): ławka przed jego niegdyś domem, na której fani pisemnie wyrażali swe uczucia po jego smierci.

Arrival into the big city after spending a some time surrounded by glorious nature made us feel a bit out of place.
We weren't sure what to expect of Seattle but wanted to visit mainly because of the grunge music history. Well, it doesn't look like there's much of it here anymore. Seems like everybody moved on and the whole history is... a ghost history now. Somehow we thought it would be celebrated more. We found Crocodile Cafe club those grunge bands were giving their first concerts in, we found a bench which is a memorial for Kurt Cobain (and it does look like it is still being visited) and luckily there's an Experimental Music Project Museum (EMP) here that holds exhibitions related not only to grunge music history but Jimi Hendrix too. In fact, in our opinion, this museum is probably the most interesting place in the whole city. Exhibitions here are brilliant. At the time of our visit, they also had the original Star Wars costumes on show which we excitedly went to see. And it was well worth the money. But what has topped the whole experience is that you can actually see how the whole process of recording music is taking place. They've got rooms where you can play different instruments, sing, do a 10-minute jamming session or record a song! How fantastic is that!


Przyjazd do wielkiego miasta po czasie mile spędzonym na boskim łonie natury wydawał się być troszkę nie na miejscu. Nie byliśmy pewni, czego można się spodziewać w Seattle, no ale chcieliśmy zobaczyć miejsce, skąd wypłynęła muzyka grunge. Wygląda jednak na to, że niezbyt wiele pozostało z tamtych czasów. Fala przeszła i pozostały... jedynie duchy przeszłości. Po cichu mieliśmy nadzieję, że cała ta historia muzyki będzie bardziej tu celebrowana. Znaleźliśmy klub Crocodile Cafe, w którym te kapele zagrały jedne z pierwszych swoich koncertów, znaleźliśmy tą ławkę poświęconą pamięci Kurta Cobain'a  (i wygląda na to, że jest nadal odwiedzana). Na szczęście jest tutaj Muzeum Experimental Music Project  (EMP) poświęcone nie tylko muzyce grunge ale też i Jimmi Hendrix'owi. Tak na marginesie, to naszym zdaniem, to muzeum to najciekawsze miejsce w mieście. Świetne mają tu wystawy. Chociażby wystawa kostiumów z Gwiezdnych Wojen, która akurat tutaj zawitała. Pieniądze uznaliśmy za dobrze wydane. No ale nic nie mogło przebić możliwości przekonania się samemu, jak wygląda studio nagrań i jak cały ten proces się odbywa. Mają tu w muzeum pomieszczenia, gdzie można zagrać na wybranym przez siebie instrumencie, zaśpiewać z podkładem muzycznym, zafundować sobie 10-minutową jamming session a nawet nagrać piosenkę. Kapitalna sprawa, no nie?!

Star Wars Costume Exhibition, C3P0 & R2D2 / Wystawa Kostiumów z serii filmów Gwiezdne Wojny, C3P0 & R2D2. 

Costumes exhibited are from different Star Wars movies. There's also a possibility to watch interview videos with actors, director and see the actual process of bringing all ideas to life. / Kostiumy tu wystawione pochodzą z różnych części Gwiezdnych Wojen. Można również obejrzeć wywiady z aktorami, reżyserem i podejrzeć, jak wszystkie pomysły zostały zmaterializowane.

The Force is with Lord Vader... / Moc jest z Lordem Vader'em...

The Space Needle, built in the 1960s. Back then it was an iconic piece of architecture  (designed on a piece of napkin!). It provides great views of the city. / Space Needle, wybudowana w latach 60-tych. W tamtych budynek ten okrzyknięty został ikoną architektury  (zaprojektowany został na serwetce). Obejrzeć stąd można panoramę miasta.
